Pike Place MarketThe Pike Place Market – Famous for fish throwing you can find just about anything your heart desires.  The birthplace of our first Starbucks where I always bought my coffee beans in the ’60s, this is the heart of our emerald city and our pride.  website

 

The Hiram Chittenden Locks – Watch boats transit from the salty waters of Puget Sound to our freshwater inland lakes. Most riveting is seeing the salmon dodge the seals Locksmaking their up the fish ladder to reach their breeding grounds to spawn.  Sockeye, Chinook, and Coho salmon, as well as steelhead, migrate through the ship canal back to Lake Washington and its tributaries. Six lighted windows in the fish viewing room provide visitors with an underwater view of the migrating fish in the elongated 18th step. website

The Arboretum - The Washington Park Arboretum is a spectacular urban green space on the shores of Lake Washington just east of downtown Seattle and south of the University of Washington.  Washington's official State Arboretum contains internationally recognized woody plant collections on 230 acres.  Noteworthy are North America's largest collection of Sorbus and Maple, the second largest collection of species Hollies and significant collections of oaks, conifers and camellias. website

Seattle Underground/Pioneer Square - History with humor. Walk below Pioneer Square sidewalks, past abandoned 1890's storefronts, with exceptional tour guides telling tales of Seattle's frontier past. Learn how our Founding Fathers' squabbling let to Seattle's complicated street system, and how the solutions to our plumbing problems affected the town's elevation. website

Seattle Center – No visit to Northwest is complete without seeing Seattle’s iconic home of the 1962 World’s Fair that put our city on the map.   You can stroll around the grounds or just go up the Space Needle to see the glorious views.  website

Seattle Museums

v  Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture is the state's official natural history and cultural museum. It has one of the largest collections of Northwest Native American art in the country. website

v  Asian Museum - This jewel-like historic building in Volunteer Park is a lively international hub for Asian art and cultural activities. website

v  Museum of Flight – For you humans who are bird wanna be’s, this museum is not to be missed. In addition to changing temporary exhibits the Museum of Flight showcases its collection of more than 150 historic air and spacecraft and related artifacts in unique and inspiring exhibits. There is something for everyone to experience in these dynamic displays presenting events that have carried us from Kitty Hawk to the Moon. website
